About

The about pattern is a standardized way to display system settings.

When to Use

  • About is a dedicated modal that is triggered when a user needs to refer to the technical information about the product build.
  • The about modal typically appears in a:
    • Configuration section
    • Footer at the bottom of the page
    • List with modules

Usability Guidance

  • This pattern displays the product’s name, version, and system specifications—it’s the digital equivalent of the copyright page in a book.
  • Extend the content of the text box as much as possible, so that it fills the whole screen.
  • Always include the copy icon.
  • Place the button that triggers the modal underneath the settings that are related to the global system, not the user’s personal settings.

UX Writing

  • Use sentence case for all information that’s included in the details box: Only capitalize the first word and any proper nouns.

Keyboard Interactions

  • Tab (or Shift + Tab) moves focus to the next element or the previous element, navigating among the close icon button, the details box, and the copy icon.
  • Enter or Space triggers the action.
