How to Implement Intuitive Interactions
Design | May 2026
Designing a great experience isn’t just about how things look, but how they work. When we follow established interaction patterns, with reusable combinations of components for solving common use cases, our users don’t have to relearn the interface in every product.
For example, use a dialog for a focused task. You might choose a version that requires an action before the user returns to their workflow, or one that lets them keep working while it’s visible.
What if you need to provide feedback, like a success message, without taking over the screen? A nonintrusive notification is better than a modal to inform the user without interruption.
Check out all of the IDS interactions, which cover key components, explain intended behaviors, and include plenty of dos and don’ts.
